Write L or R on each firing card before loading. Include target, shell, powder, bearing, elevation, and desired effect. If both guns participate, create two rows even when most values match. The duplication is intentional: one barrel may hold a different shell, charge count, elevation, or arming state.
Use a consistent physical route for each side. Follow the loading mechanism to the barrel, then identify its elevation control and arming lever. Do not infer the side from where you happen to stand.
Prepare one gun before attempting two
Learn the complete sequence on a single side: requisition, load, count charges, complete mechanical steps, aim, set elevation, arm, fire, and observe reset. Repeat on the other side in a low-pressure state. This exposes mirrored controls and prompts without adding simultaneous-state confusion.
After every operation, confirm both sides’ visible states. PATCH 1.0 (1558) fixed elevation and linkage lever not resetting after leaving a mission following a shot, so a current installation is essential when studying transitions.
Decide why a second barrel is needed
A two-gun plan can support two different effects, two targets, or rapid follow-up, but only when the mission state and resources justify it. If the objective needs one precise shell, preparing both adds failure paths. Do not arm both simply to save walking time.
For two effects on one area, decide order. Smoke or illumination can change what the next observation means; a destructive shell can advance the mission before the planned second shot. Wait for dispatch or impact feedback when the operation expects it.
Treat linkage as a controlled test
Community discussions ask whether both guns can be linked, which confirms player uncertainty rather than one universal answer. Before relying on a linkage control, record both initial bearing/elevation states, move the control once, and read both final dials. Repeat after a clean mission start and note the patch.
Even when rotation or elevation movement is coupled, loading and arming may remain side-specific. “The barrels moved together” does not prove “both are ready to fire.” Verify every field on both cards.
Avoid cross-fire mistakes
The most dangerous mismatch is loading one side and arming the other. The second is applying an elevation calculated for one powder count to a different load. The third is preserving a stale side from the previous target.
Use a verbal check: “Left: shell, charges, elevation, armed; Right: shell, charges, elevation, safe.” Reverse it for a right-side shot. For a planned pair, name the order and purpose of each round.
Diagnose an unexpected dual-gun result
If the wrong barrel fires, check arming state and interaction side. If one gun points differently, inspect linkage engagement and whether fine adjustment was side-specific. If impacts separate in range, compare actual charges and elevations rather than blaming shared rotation.
Preserve both card rows and impact marks. Reset through normal mission flow, update the game, and reproduce from a known state before filing a linkage bug. Include whether the symptom occurred after leaving another mission or after a crash.
Resource and medal considerations
Two loaded guns consume ammunition and powder that may matter to requisition-based medals. The official materials confirm unlockable ammunition and abilities but do not provide a universal cost table. Check the current operation and medal text before staging a spare round.
For Challenge scoring, firing faster is useful only if the operation completes correctly. The developer FAQ says results save after correct completion and newspaper dismissal. An unneeded second shot can undermine precision, resource, or objective conditions.
