In IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator, abilities solve two different problems: reconnaissance reduces uncertainty, while movement changes the Nest’s firing origin. Use a recon option when the target or impact is unknown. Use a movement option when remaining in place is the immediate risk. After any movement, discard the old range and bearing solution and plot again.
2950790, public 1.0 through PATCH 1.0 (1577), checked 2026-08-11. Public sources establish the ability families and current player-facing names below, but do not publish a stable all-mission cost and unlock table. Availability, price, cooldown, radius, and exact result remain check in game fields.Quick ability index
These are operational records, not rarity tiers. The game and official public material checked here do not support assigning invented common, rare, or legendary labels.
Recon Plane: ask one precise question
Before ordering a Recon Plane, circle the area that matters and state what you need to learn: “Which candidate is the battery?”, “Did the previous shot move the target?”, or “Where is the next spotter?” A broad scan with no decision attached is easy to waste.
When the result arrives, keep the old marks. Compare the new contact or report with dispatch clues, observer bearings, craters, and the objective text. A recon result narrows the search; it does not repair a wrong Nest origin or an incorrectly read map grid. For a manual solution, verify the origin with Triangulation and then calculate the new bearing and range.
In Phantom Battery, current community reports consistently use recon to reacquire a battery that relocates after being hit. That is a route pattern, not proof that the same scan order, grid, or cost applies to every run. The Phantom Battery walkthrough separates the repeatable decision loop from unverified coordinates.
Forward Observer: protect the information source
Treat a Forward Observer as a mission resource, not a permanent map upgrade. Read the operation’s current briefing and console before budgeting around one. If the observer supplies a bearing, contact, or correction, write down when it was issued and what target state existed at that time.
Enemy action can make a once-correct report stale. If an objective relocates or the Nest moves, do not keep using the old line simply because it came from an observer. Reconcile it with the newest visible evidence. In missions where hostile spotters drive pressure, destroying them may buy time according to current player reports, but the amount of time and resources should be checked in the live operation.
Position Report: establish your own origin first
Manual gunnery needs a known origin and a target. Position Report is valuable when the uncertainty is the Nest rather than the enemy. Use the current output to establish the firing origin, mark it clearly, and only then measure the target bearing and distance.
Do not confuse a general grid in a briefing with the exact centre of the gun. Current community manual-aiming guides recommend using a confirmed impact crater or close reference to refine the origin when the map position is imprecise. Preserve both marks until a test shot shows which interpretation fits.
PATCH 1.0 (1577) fixed turret position and movement not resetting correctly between missions. Update before diagnosing a repeat or replay in which the origin appears inherited from the previous run.
Tactical Move: relocate before the firing window closes
Use Tactical Move when the threat permits a deliberate relocation. Before activation, save the current target marks and note which ones describe world positions rather than Nest-relative solutions. After movement, the target can stay in the same world position while its range and bearing from the gun change.
Rebuild in this order: confirm the new Nest origin, redraw the line to the selected target, measure bearing, measure range, select shell and charge, then compute elevation. Test with a low-risk target or spotting opportunity when the objective allows. Never copy the old elevation into the new position merely because the target did not move.
Emergency Move: survive, then rebuild
Emergency Move is the “break contact” choice. Activate it only through the current console instructions, then assume the complete firing solution is stale. Check whether the mission objective, inventory, observers, and hostile targeting state persisted. The checked public evidence does not support promises that the move always clears counter-battery tracking or preserves every mission timer.
If pressure resumes immediately, record the sequence and public patch. It may be expected mission logic, a bad origin assumption, or a state-reset problem. Reproduce once after updating and report a concise sequence through the official Community hub rather than repeatedly spending a campaign run.
Costs, unlocks, and mode restrictions
The developer FAQ says Challenge Missions provide varied situations and unlock ammunition and abilities. It also says a correctly completed Challenge result is saved after dismissing the newspaper. It does not publish one permanent price or unlock chart.
For the run in front of you, read and record:
- the exact ability label and displayed description;
- whether it is locked, available, cooling down, or unavailable;
- the displayed requisition cost before confirmation;
- Campaign, Challenge, or Uncontested context;
- the mission and objective stage;
- the visible result and whether it persisted after a transition;
- the official patch title shown in the current public version context.
Costs and access can legitimately differ by operation, progression, or later patch. A blank field in the Arsenal Database means “not published as a stable value,” not zero.
Best sequence for a difficult contact
- Identify whether the unknown is your position, the enemy position, or immediate survival.
- Select Position Report, reconnaissance, or movement to answer that specific problem.
- Record the cost and current mission state before confirming.
- Wait for the report or relocation to complete; do not fire on the old state.
- Replot the origin-to-target line and calculate a fresh solution.
- Read the next dispatch, impact, or contact change before spending again.
This sequence prevents two common failures: spending recon before knowing what to search, and moving successfully but firing with the abandoned origin’s solution.
