IRON NEST Campaign Mode Guide

Prepare for IRON NEST Campaign mode, complete each authored operation cleanly, preserve story choices, and decide when to replay for medals.

Campaign is the authored story mode of IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator. Choose it for named operations, teleprinter orders, newspaper briefings, mission medals, and the city outcomes reflected by Steam achievements. The developer estimates about 8–12 hours to complete every mission once without replaying, but careful map work and medal attempts can extend that considerably.

Scope: Steam AppID 2950790, Windows public version 1.0, checked 2026-08-08. This page explains the mode flow without revealing target coordinates or ending conditions.

Prepare before starting Campaign

Confirm Steam has selected the public branch and installed the current patch. Open Settings, review current controls, and choose a language whose mission intelligence is readable. PATCH 1.0 (1547) fixed Czech and French localization errors that could break mission intel, so an old build can create a false puzzle.

Learn the station order: teleprinter, tactical map, ballistic calculator, requisition/loading, rotation/elevation, arming, firing, impact review, and newspaper. Campaign teaches these systems through authored objectives. Keep a notebook entry for each mission rather than reusing a Challenge worksheet.

Complete a mission through its full state

Read every dispatch and separate the active objective from background story. Plot known origins and target evidence, create the card, and verify the gun’s actual shell and charges. After impact, wait for the teleprinter or map to confirm whether the objective advanced.

When the mission ends, read and dismiss the newspaper through the normal interaction. Then use the supported sleep/transition action to begin the next assignment. Do not force-close during that sequence. The newspaper is narrative feedback and may also be part of the state the game needs to record completion.

If no transition appears, return to the latest order before assuming a bug. A required effect, secondary target, or unread dispatch may remain.

Record medals without chasing them immediately

The result/newspaper can reveal which in-game medals were earned and at what grade. Capture the complete panel. On the first run, prioritize understanding and completion. A gold attempt is much easier when the baseline shows the exact medal names and weak grades.

For a replay, choose one criterion suggested by the result—accuracy, assistance, requisition, collateral, time, or an optional action—and alter only that behavior. Medal requirements are operation-specific until reproducible current-version evidence proves otherwise. The Achievements Guide shows which operations have Steam awards for gold on every medal.

Handle choices without accidental spoilers

Four official Steam achievements describe different city outcomes. Their descriptions prove branching results exist but do not state the route. Before an apparent choice, finish any active save transition and use the game’s supported profile/save features. Avoid reading an ending guide until you intentionally want the consequence disclosed.

A reliable choice record includes every relevant teleprinter order, shots fired, optional objectives, mission result, and final city achievement. A single final screenshot cannot establish causality.

Recover from Campaign problems

If a crash prevents mission entry or progress appears damaged, update first. PATCH 1.0 (1558) fixed save corruption and failing to enter missions after a crash. Verify the game files in Steam and preserve the existing save before trying any reset.

If High Tide ends with an incorrect or duplicated newspaper/record, PATCH 1.0 (1547) addressed that specific issue. If elevation or the linkage lever remains in an old state after leaving a mission following a shot, PATCH 1.0 (1558) addressed that state reset.

Report remaining problems with mission name, language, public version/date, last completed transition, and whether a crash occurred. Do not use a Demo forum fix without confirming the same base-game path.

Campaign versus Challenge

Campaign uses authored operations and story progression. Challenge Missions use procedurally varied targets and single-run scoring, with unlockable ammunition and reconnaissance abilities. A memorized Campaign target does not solve a Challenge run, and a Challenge requisition strategy may not fit a story objective.

Move to Challenge after you can independently read intel, calculate a shot, and diagnose a miss. Return to Campaign for gold medals or alternate outcomes with a recorded baseline.

Campaign questions

Is Campaign single-player?

Yes. Public version 1.0 is fully single-player. Planned multiplayer is not part of the current Campaign.

Does the 8–12 hour estimate include gold medals?

No. The FAQ describes completing every mission once without replaying. Gold, endings, and repeated Challenge runs add time.

Where is the mission order?

Use the spoiler-light Campaign Mission Index, built from official Steam achievement names.

Should I delete my save if a mission will not load?

No. Update and verify files first, because PATCH 1.0 (1558) fixed a crash-related mission-entry and corruption issue. Preserve data before any destructive recovery.
