IRON NEST Counter-Battery

Solve Counter-Battery by separating hostile-fire evidence from the Nest firing solution, managing pressure, and verifying each battery response.

Counter-Battery is anchored by Silence the Counter-Battery and the gold award Distinguished Conduct. The operation’s core problem is localization under pressure: hostile-fire evidence can identify a source, but it is not automatically a complete bearing/elevation card for the Nest.

Game: IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator. Mission scope: AppID 2950790, Windows public 1.0, checked 2026-08-09. No universal enemy coordinate, timing window, or failure threshold is asserted without current-run verification.

Keep hostile evidence in its own layer

Record where each report originates, what direction or range it supplies, and when it was received. Draw rays/circles from their stated origins. Label successive salvos rather than blending them into one thick line.

If evidence indicates movement or multiple sources, create separate candidates. A dramatic impact near the Nest does not itself reveal the enemy’s exact firing point.

Triangulate before reacting

Combine compatible bearings and ranges. Resolve two-point ambiguity through map context, another dispatch, or reconnaissance. Then draw from the Nest to the selected battery and measure the firing solution.

The Triangulation guide explains why averaging incompatible lines hides an origin error. Under pressure, a clean plot is faster than repairing a blind shot.

Manage operational pressure

The developer FAQ says the Nest does not use a conventional health system, but mission pressure and counter-battery objectives can still create failure states. Read the active instruction and any ability description. Do not invent a health-bar strategy.

If an emergency reposition option appears, record before/after firing origin. Every prior Nest-to-target bearing and range becomes stale. Rebuild before firing.

Choose a silencing effect

Use the dispatch and target class to select ammunition. Confirm shell, charges, elevation, bearing, barrel, and arming state. If the impact is accurate but the battery continues, inspect effect and whether the mission expects another source/stage.

Wait for response. Counter-battery can encourage rushed salvos, but a second shot on obsolete intelligence may waste the best evidence.

Troubleshoot the common stall

If no target appears, check unread reports and whether each line begins at its correct observer/reference. If the gun cannot elevate, check loading/breech state. If a mission fails after apparently silencing a point, determine whether another battery or new dispatch became active.

After a crash followed by mission-entry failure, install PATCH 1.0 (1558) and verify files before modifying saves.

Research Distinguished Conduct

Complete once and capture medal hints. A “conduct” title could relate to several behaviors; it is not an exact rule. Test resource use, assistance, accuracy, timing, and protected-target discipline separately.

Keep the full firing log and result. Reproduce any gold route on the same public patch before publishing it as sufficient.

Report a Counter-Battery bug

Provide dispatch stage, plotted origins, target candidate, ability/reposition use, shot card, impact, response, public patch, and whether the newspaper appeared. Mark coordinates as spoilers if shared.

Do not label an uncertain triangulation a mission bug until the evidence and current community reports agree.

Compare the battery with its impact pattern

Keep hostile impact marks in chronological order and compare them with each proposed source. A candidate that explains one report but contradicts later bearings may be stale, a different battery, or based on the wrong observer. Do not turn impact spacing into a precise rate or location formula without multiple controlled observations.

If pressure forces an early shot, label it exploratory and keep its card. Its result can still eliminate a candidate. When the operation supplies a stronger report, prefer the evidence update over defending the first guess. For accessibility or slower operation, use any current pause/untimed-input support the game exposes and prepare a paper checklist before entering. This reduces cognitive load without claiming the mission itself has no strategic timing. A disciplined evidence sequence is the safest path to both ordinary completion and later medal research.

Before the newspaper, reconcile every hostile impact with a resolved or still-active source. An unexplained mark should remain an open observation, not become a guessed hidden battery.
