First decide what kind of miss occurred

A lateral miss is mainly left or right of the intended point. A longitudinal miss is mainly short or long along the line of fire. An effect miss lands in the right place but uses the wrong ammunition behavior. A state miss appears unrelated to the card because a different gun, load, or stale setting was fired.

Wait for the mission’s impact report or reconnaissance. Do not infer a precise correction from a dramatic visual alone when the tactical map supplies better evidence.

Correct left and right at the source

Review the target position, origins of observer bearings, and final bearing from the Nest. A slightly wrong triangulation can create a lateral pattern that looks like a gun-control problem. Confirm you set the intended side and re-read the bearing after releasing the control.

If the target moves, establish whether the report describes its old or current position. A perfect correction to stale geometry remains stale. Use later intelligence or observed motion rather than applying a fixed lead copied from another operation.

Correct short and long without mixing loads

Check measured Nest-to-target range, shell, actual powder count, calculated elevation, and dial transfer. Recalculate the exact live combination before deciding the model is wrong. A missing or extra charge invalidates an otherwise accurate elevation.

When those fields match, make one controlled elevation adjustment supported by your calibration or current impact feedback. Record the new value. Do not change charge count and elevation together unless you intentionally created a wholly new calculator solution.

Recognize the right impact with the wrong effect

Objectives can require fragmentation, armor penetration, concealment, illumination, chemical area denial, or another specific role documented by the current mission. A centered shell that fails to progress may be the wrong tool, not a poor shot.

Read the dispatch and Shell Types. Avoid assuming the largest blast is always best; friendly restrictions and target class matter. If the objective asks for a staged effect, wait for the response before firing a different round.

Find gun-state mismatches

Trace the firing card to the loaded barrel. Confirm the shell and charge went into that side, the corresponding elevation moved, and the same side was armed. With two guns, it is easy to prepare one and fire the other.

Consider stale state only after checking operator sequence. PATCH 1.0 (1558) fixed elevation and elevation-linkage not resetting after leaving a mission following a shot. If the symptom follows a crash or transition, update and reproduce on the current build before reporting it as active.

Use a correction log

Record operation, target, time or dispatch stage, bearing, range, shell, charges, elevation, barrel, impact classification, and the one changed variable. A three-shot record is more informative than a screenshot of the final hit because it shows which relationship held.

For an uncertain target, keep confidence notes beside the geometry. For an uncertain ballistic estimate, keep confidence beside elevation. This prevents a later analyst from treating every number as equally verified.

Know when to rebuild instead of adjust

Rebuild the complete solution when the target moved, new intelligence changed its position, the Nest repositioned, shell or charge changed, a different barrel will fire, or the old card’s provenance is unclear. Small corrections are for a known coherent shot, not for rescuing a broken chain.

If ammunition is scarce, pause before the next load. Requisition and ability use can affect medal attempts; a speculative salvo may make a technically completable operation miss its optimization goal.

Correction questions

Should I erase the first impact?

No. Keep it until the corrected result is understood. Comparison is the value of a correction.

Is every short shot an elevation error?

No. Wrong target range, powder count, or gun state can create the same appearance.

Can I correct both axes at once?

Only when evidence independently proves both errors. One-variable changes are easier to verify and document.
