List direct positions, observer origins, bearings, ranges, target description, timing, and protected context. Mark each as confirmed, derived, or stale. If the dispatch omits a field, leave it unknown rather than borrowing one from another mission.
Plot every known fact and identify the remaining candidate region.
Represent uncertainty on the map
Use separate rays, circles, or candidate marks. A thick intersection region is not one exact point. Seek another report, map-context exclusion, or available recon before choosing.
When a choice is required, document why one candidate is stronger. That reasoning matters more than a memorized outcome.
Keep calculator confidence separate
Once a target estimate is chosen, the calculator can provide a precise elevation for its measured range/shell/charges. That precision does not validate the target location. Write target-confidence and ballistic-state-confidence separately on the card.
At loading, verify actual powder, barrel, bearing, elevation, and arming. Eliminate mechanical uncertainty before firing into geometric uncertainty.
Learn from the first impact
Wait for observer or mission feedback and mark impact. Compare it with the candidate region. If the deviation matches uncertain target placement, refine the position. If it is primarily short/long despite strong geometry, inspect range/load/elevation. If the effect is wrong, do not move the target.
Change one variable. Blind conditions make undisciplined multi-variable corrections especially hard to interpret.
Stay unshaken by pressure
The Nest has no conventional health system according to the FAQ, but mission pressure can still affect decisions. Keep the dispatch ledger, one active card, and explicit barrel state. Do not fire merely because an incoming event feels urgent unless the mission defines the response.
If controls appear stuck, inspect mechanical prerequisites. Update for PATCH 1.0 (1558) mouse and stale-elevation fixes before reporting persistent state.
Verify the Unshaken gold award
Complete once and capture all medal hints. The title could relate to pressure, but exact criteria must be tested. Isolate assistance, accuracy, time, shots, requisition, and mission responses.
Preserve failed attempts. A current public-build run with visible result is stronger than an unversioned tip.
Finish and document
Read the newspaper, allow saving, and record Steam award separately. For a support report include clue provenance, uncertainty region, chosen point, full card, impact, response, patch, and crash history.

Use a confidence budget
Assign high, medium, or low confidence to target position, range, bearing, shell effect, powder, and gun state. Before firing, improve the cheapest low-confidence field: reread a dispatch, inspect the load, or check the dial. Spend reconnaissance only when it addresses a remaining target ambiguity.
After impact, update the field the evidence actually informs. A lateral report strengthens or weakens position/bearing; it says little about shell effect. A mission response to the effect does not prove the point was centered. This budget keeps the operation from feeling like arbitrary guessing and creates a compact after-action record. When sharing a solution, publish the confidence reasoning and patch so another player can adapt it rather than copying one unexplained mark.
Keep a stopping rule for ammunition: after a shot that supplies no interpretable feedback, pause and re-read rather than firing the remaining ready supply. A second blind result does not necessarily reduce uncertainty. Seek a new message, confirm the shell effect and barrel, or use a verified reconnaissance option. Resource discipline preserves the ability to test a genuinely different candidate and may matter to later medal attempts.
